To start, I created a rainbow ink blended background using some Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks.  I used Picked Raspberry, Wilted Violet, Peacock Feathers, and Twisted Citron inks.  To achieve the smooth blend I used mini ink blending tools and went over each color 2-3 times for a seamless blend.  I used a piece of Strathmore mixed media paper for the background and I did all of the ink blending on the easy clean mat.

I wanted to do a tone on tone technique using the Nesting Hexagons stencil from Neat & Tangled and the inks.  I used a small loop of painter’s tape on the backside of the paper to secure it in place on the easy clean mat and then taped the stencil in place.  I applied the same ink colors over top of the stencil.

Next, I wanted to add some sparkle to the background while the stencil was still in place.  I applied the glimmer paste using a palette knife.  The glimmer paste will re-activate the inks so I started at the top and worked my way to the bottom of the paper.  I wiped off the excess paste on the craft mat when it started to change color from the inks.  Carefully remove the stencil and then be sure to wash and clean the stencil, palette knife and craft mat right away to remove the excess glimmer paste.  Set paper aside to dry.  The glimmer paste will dry pretty quick — within just a few minutes.

I absolutely love the look of water droplets with the oxide inks.  So once the paper was dry I took a paint brush with clean water and added the droplets.  Then, I used a paper towel to blot up the water.  Rainbow, tons of sparkle, and water droplets = love!

For my focal point I am using the crystal image from the Neat & Tangled Dazzling clear stamp set.  I stamped the image using VersaMark ink and added gold enchantment embossing powder.  I used my heat tool to melt and set the embossing powder.  I love the little touch of sparkle in the embossing powder.  I stamped and embossed the image twice because I will be die cutting one of them to layer on top of the other.

I used a combination of the Aqua Flow and Brush Script pens to watercolor the image.  I just scribbled the pens on to the craft mat and then I picked them up with some water and a paint brush.  I did a couple of layers of watercolor on each part of the image.  The first layer was just to lay down some color and the other layers were to add some depth to the image.  All of the colors are listed and linked in the supply list above and I also listed the color groups.

Next, I used the rectangle dies from Tonic and the coordinating Neat & Tangled Dazzling – Nice and Neat Die to cut out the background and the images.  I used the Tangerine machine to do all of my die cutting.

I layered the die cut image of the crystals on to the stamped image of the crystals using some foam tape.  Then, I added crystal glaze on top of all of the crystals and a few drops of the white blizzard glitter drops –because you can never have enough sparkle lol.

Here is a close up of the crystal image once the glaze and drops are dry.

Here is a close up of the background to see the sparkle from the glimmer paste and the water droplets.  Love all the sparkle!

And here is one last look at the finished card.

To add a little more dimension to the card I added craft foam to the smaller rectangle and also to the watercolor background.  I used a white A2 top folding card base.

Thanks so much for stopping by today and I hope you enjoyed my project share.  I had so much fun playing with all of the fantastic Neat & Tangle products along with the Tonic Studios products!

Have a wonderful and crafty day!

My Mother My Friend Card

Hello friends!  I know it’s just a little early to be working on Mother’s Day cards, but with the winter weather rearing it’s ugly head, I thought it would help my spring fever to create a spring-type card!

Tonic Studios Brush Script pens work great to watercolor images using a water pen and some watercolor paper.  To use these markers with the water pen, it works really great to color them onto a palette of some kind.  Here they are colored onto an acrylic block.

Supplies Used:

By mixing the green and yellow colors together, you can achieve different shades of green for the image.

After coloring the leaves, use the coral color directly onto the paper and then go back in using the water pen to blend the darker color into a lighter color.

By stamping the flower image onto the 4 corners of watercolor paper, you can create your own patterned paper for this card.  Once the image panels are dry, you can use the Mixed Edge Rectangle Layering Basics Die set to die cut them to the perfect sizes.

Adding Nuvo Crystal Glaze to the flower image adds some dimension and shine.

Here is a closer look……
