Hetty & Harry Hippo – One Die / Two Different Looks

I love all the Wild Buildables Collection of animal dies but I think the Hippo is my favorite. I wanted to show the versatility these dies offer by creating 2 cards with the same die sets. There are so many fun combinations if you use a little imagination.

Here is what you will need to create the cards above:

I don’t always know what the end result will be when I start creating my projects. I started by cutting all the main elements in dark gray and then again in light gray so I could mix them and create opposite colored animals. Tonic-Hetty-Hippo2

Cut eyelashes, eyes and flower centers in black and your choice of flower colors.

Cut another foot, arm and nostril in each color and 2 teeth in white.

Cut another body piece in patterned paper to use as a dress.

Use Foam Adhesive to add dimension to nose and feet.

TIP: Use the foot and hand dies as stencils to apply a little ink for “fingernail polish” and Hetty’s other accents.

Tonic-Harry-Hippo2

Cut the extra pieces needed again to assemble Harry.

TIP: Cut another eyelash to use for hair and 2 extra nostrils and flower stem for a pair of glasses.

It’s hard to believe that these are the same die. A few Nuvo Crystal Drops are a great accent for Harry.

I hope you enjoyed my take on the Wild Buildables Hetty/Harry Hippo Die Set.  Happy crafting!

Welcome Baby

Tonic-Regal-Carriage

I have a fun baby shower card to share using a paper piecing technique to add color and interest to a single layer die.

Tonic Studios Supplies:

How to:

  1. Cut carriage base layer from plain white card stock
  2. Cut 2nd layer from printed card stock to use in voids
  3. Cut mirror card stock and trim off canopy
  4. Glue white carriage to your background
  5. Glue printed pieces in the voids (like putting together a puzzle)
  6. Glue mirror pieces on top to resemble the metal pieces of the carriage
  7. Hand cut additional layers of bows and pop up with foam adhesive
  8. Accent with Nuvo Crystal Drops for added dimension

I hope you will try this simple technique!
